Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
Old case still haunting me.
In 1990 I was convicted of theft $300+. I have always received police clearance and never had any problems when my license was ran after being pulled over. I discovered that the court had made and error and showed the theft amount to be 220,376.00. I filed a motion to have the amount corrected and found that a FTA warrant had been issued in 1994. The court clerk said it was no longer active and suggested that I file a motiont o have it lifted. 1 week later I was arrested and spent 5 days in county jail. At my court date months later the Judge released me of all commitments because of these errors. And still the court system shows the incorrect amount. All these years when potential employers have ran a background check on me it looks as if I stole $200,000.00 from an employer. I beleive that this is defamation of character. Is this a case for suit? They were never even looking for me until I went to correct their records and then they had the nerve to arrest me! Everytime I give them a current address they use an old address and this is why i never got my court papers in 1994 and why after I filed the motion in 2006 I never got notice to turn myself in for a 12 year old warrant. I've sufferd enough for my mistake.

Re: Old case still haunting me.
You should probably at least file for expungement on the second case you mentioned that was dismissed, to get it off your record. If you want to contact me to provide more details, I would be happy to look at the case for you.
