What EXACTLY does ''Assult in the Second Degree'' mean?

This crime is a misdemeanor, carries 10 years prison/$2500 fine, and involves striking another person or attempting to strike another person (without a weapon or the intent to cause serious physical injury, either of which would make it "first degree assault").
