Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Delivery of Summons

I have been charged with a misdemeanor in a state that I do not live in. The charge is for telephone misuse. I have no prior record. I called a friend twice and I did not even say anything since we were going through a rough patch. She filed a criminal charge against me. The only way I knew is because I searched public records. What do they need to do to properly notify me. If they do not notify me, what can happen? BTW - I live in VA and the misdemeanor is being filed in MD.

Re: Delivery of Summons

Don't do anything until you've been properly served with notice of the filed charge.

Thereupon, you should consult an attorney, first a competent Virginia criminal defense counsel, and then, possibly, if need be, an attorney who practices criminal defense law in Maryland.

These folks should be able to advise you as to how best you should proceed in the matter.
