It may mean they will drop the charges completely once finished with your drug classes. This depends on the exact agreement. The Stet docket is an inactive docket which requires you to waive your right to a speedy trial because the case could be brought back in as much as 3 yrs. You should definitely consult an attorney to see if you should accep these terms.
Re: Diversion Program for Possession of Marijuana Charge
Each jurisdiction has different diversion programs. What county are charged in? In Prince George's County, the program is a serious of hour long classes. In Baltimore, my understanding is that the program is only 1 full day. All the programs usually consist of some type of education regarding the harmful effects of marijuana.
Its definetly a good thing that you were offered it. I've never met a stet I didn't like.
All the best,
David
Re: Diversion Program for Possession of Marijuana Charge
Each county varies and each diversion program officer likewise.
You do not indicate whether this is a first charge, which may vary the terms of the agreement. Other beneficial matters may apply to the order.
Typically a diversion program involves classroom and group sessions. You are agreeing to a treatment program. Urine analysis may be required. Failure to submit or comply may result in further action against you.
You should consider speaking with an attorney and acquiring representation should you consider this option.
