Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
Driving on suspended drivers license
My 18 yr old daughter was recently charged with driving on a suspended license in MD. The licence was suspended because she is a young driver and received her second moving violation. We never received any notice of the suspension and she was unaware when charged. She immediately turned in her license when she was informed by the officer who charged her. I am told that this is a criminal violation and not a traffice violation. What is the max potential penalty? Do you recommend that we get an attorney to represent her in court?

Re: Driving on suspended drivers license
The penalty for driving on a suspended license is up to a year in jail and/or up to $1,000.00 fine. A criminal trial lawyer, like myself, can ofen convince the Court to grant probation before judgment, which will keep the points off your daughter's driving record.

You should contact an attorney to discuss your daughter's case. The maximum penalty may be as much as 1 year in jail &/or a $1,000.00 fine and 12 points on her driver's license. see my website, athenlaw
