Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Expungment of record for shoplifting

In july of 2000 I was charged in court with shoplifting. Judgement was probation before judgement with $150 in court costs. My atty said I could have the record expunged eventually and this was my only charge ever. How do I go about that and how much would it cost? Also at the time I was charged I was banned from the store (Sears) and also was informed by mall security that I was banned from the mall. I never did ask my atty but is there anyway that I would be allowed back in the mall? Would I have to contact mall security? I haven't set foot near the place in 2 years+.

Re: Expungment of record for shoplifting

Using an attorney for the expungement may cost you around $200, which includes the filing fee. Being excluded from sears can not be "forever", but more like a condition of the one year probation. The security guards may think they can ban someone for life, but I doubt the validity. I wouldn't talk to them before showing up. They can't ban you from the mall itself, that goes too far, only the affected business, Sears, and then only for the probationary period. They'll prabably charge you with "tresspassing", but it won't holdup. Good luck.
