Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
Failure to Pay Metro Fare
I received a ticket for a failure to pay metro fare back in June of 2006. I have since moved back down south, and they say I need to attend court on the 26th of January. On the citation it says a fine from $20 to $50 and no jail time. I am just concerned because I would love to avoid having to go to DC. So I guess this is a two fold question: 1. Can this be punishable by jail and 2. Is there anyway to just pay the maximum fine without having to go up to Maryland?

A Mississippi lawyer can not give you a direct answer. What I would do is call the court clerk and ask them how much to send and in what form. I'll bet they will tell you. If they don't call the prosecutor.
