Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Filing a false police report

Hello, I reported a police report on my boyfriend for indangerment & destruction of property. I also filed a peace order. The very next day I went up to the court house to try & stop the domestic charges, as well as the peace order. The peace order was dropped as I never showed to extend it. The states atorney said that they could not drop the charges, even though I wrote a letter, not admitting I was lying, but over exagerated the facts, & didn't want him arrested. He sits in jail awaiting trial for these charges as well as VOP charges. Yesterday I called the state atorneys office again & told them that my testimony will be that I lied about the facts, and they said I would most probably face criminal charges. I am 48 years old, & have no record, except for one DWI back in 1992, which was a PBJ. I have never even received a speeding ticket. What can I expect to receive for this offense? I thank you so much for your time.

Re: Filing a false police report

It depends on many factors, but first things first: don't EVER testify that you lied. You are better off consulting an attorney immediately to explain your rights.
