Giving Statement at Son's Sentencing

I was prepared to give a statement at my son's sentencing but was ignored by the Public Defender, as were the people I was with, he said he ''could have let me speak'' but he didn't . Is this allowed ? I've waited six months for my say.

Re: Giving Statement at Son's Sentencing

The right to speak at sentencing extends to the defendant and the victim, not the defendant's mother. But perhaps you should get a lawyer to file a reconsideration of sentence (due within 90 days of sentencing) and then you could have a say, and maybe decrease your son's sentence.
