Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
I'm ''guilty'' by association
I was caught up in something and now I'm being charged with a less then $100 theft. What will happen to me if I'm found guilty (they said I'm guilty by assoc.) I have a clean record and have never been in this situation before. I also am 18 so I'm worried whether or not I'll go to jail. Please help me out.

Re: I'm ''guilty'' by association
First, you are not guilty unless you say you are, or a Judge or Jury says you are. Therefore, since a conviction will follow you the rest of your life, do not go to court without a lawyer. In answer to your question, the crime of theft in Maryland carries a fine and a jail term. On a first offense the chances of you going to jail are slim and none. However, a theft conviction on your record will prevent you from having a great many job opportunities.
