Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
Guilty of embezzlement and only witness to save me died?
I worked for a company and the owner and I were VERY close. He started writing checks to companies and on the back made them payable to me and I would deposit them in my account then take the cash out and give it to him. He said it wasn't stealing cause it was his own money anyway. This way he didn't have to pay income tax on it. Most of the time he would give me $100 -$500 for doing it for him. He just recently died and now the co. accountant has found the cancelled checks. I look very guilty. what can I do and what punishment could I be facing. We are in the $50,000 range.
