Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

I live in Maryland. Recently, I THOUGHT I saw somewhere on the internet a statement that in Maryland police detention is voluntary??? I can't find it anymore but I believe I have misread that.

If the police detain you at your vehicle until another police unit can arrive OR they have taken you down to the station, I can't believe that you can just say I didn't volunteer this and walk away (not without getting shot by the police). So does ANYONE know Maryland law concerning this??

No, you cannot choose to not be arrested (unless, of course, you choose to not commit crime). But even then, you could be wrongly accused. It's happened to me before with those darn red-light camera tickets.
