Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Missed out of state court case

I was pulled over in Maryland after

moving from Virginia to find that my

license was suspended. I had been

planning to move out of state to

Colorado and was unable to show up

for court in Maryland. I had a

previous DUI arrest about 2 years

prior and was on unsupervised

probation. I have been informed that

my probation officer is looking for me

now. I am unable to afford legal

representation or a flight back to

Maryland to take care of this

problem. What can I do? Can/ will

they arrest me in Colorado if I get

pulled over? My license is now valid

as I paid the fine in VA before I left.

Should I call my probation officer or

would that be a bad idea?

Missed out of state court case

The trouble with violating your probation is that the violation can result in not only new charges (violation of probation) but also in a jail sentence from the original case for which you were placed on probation. It is better to have a lawyer call the probation officer to see if something can be worked out. If you call him, he will tell you to turn yourself in (which is what he must tell you under the law). You have to decide if spending money on a lawyer is wiser than going to jail.
