Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
Three months ago I discovered that my gun was missing from my home and I reported it stolen. My husband said he didnt know anything about it being gone and someone must have stolen it. He was a little too surprised when he found out I had the serial number and reported it stolen. So, I knew something was going on. This shot gun was my grandfathers and was given to me when he passed away last year. I recently found the gun my husband had sold to someone for pills (this is what the guy who had it told me). Apparently, my husband has been doing pills for a little while now (I did not know this). This guy wanted me to get him pills and he would give he back to me. I do not do anything with any type of drugs so I refused. He then said I could buy it back if I gave him cash. Since this has sentimental value I paid to get it back. I havent told my husband I have the gun yet.
Im not sure how to go about reporting that I found the gun and bought it back (I now realize that I probably shouldnt have bought it back). I dont want to get in trouble as Ive never been in trouble before. I would prefer if my husband doesnt get in trouble because we have a 3 year old son. My main concern now is protecting our son.
Im considering a divorce but Im not sure where to start with custody, paying for the house on my own, etc.

If you don't report that you got it back, and something happens in the future, you could theoretically be charged with something like filing a false police report, so be very careful. If you report that your husband sold the gun, you found out where it went, and bought it back, hopefully that'd be the end of it. There need be no mention of pills. You could also consider getting an attorney to speak for you with the police.
