Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Non responsive attorney

Who can I contact to report a criminal attorney I retained for my son who was recently arrested for destruction of property. In short, my son and his ex-girlfriend had a dispute at her house and he kicked and dented the doors to her car, and got arrested. I retained an attorney for him, however the attorney was 45 mins. late for court, does not return phone calls, and was not aggressive in this case which should have been dismissed because son's girlfriend signed affidavit that she will not press any charges. Due to attorney's malpractice, my son is faced with twice weekly piss tests (when he didn't test positive for any substance abuse at arrest or thereafter), 22 weeks domestic abuse counseling, and 40 hours community service. This is what we were trying to avoid by retaining an attorney, instead of using a public defender, who could have gotten the same results for no money. I don't see that this high priced attorney ($2000) did anything that the public defender couldn't have done, and he made promises that this case would be likely resolved prior to going to court. Now he has my son's $2000 and won't return our phone calls. What if any recourse do we have against this rogue attorney.

You could contact the MD Attorney greivence commission - then contact a malpractice attorney to recover the fee.
