Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
Outstanding felony warrant
I have been a truck driver with a CDL since 1997. I have had extensive back ground checks to haul postal mail, etc., Now I am disabled and have been collecting SSI. All of a sudden, SS says that are closing my case because of an outstanding felony warrent that was issued in 1997. All that I can get from Baltimore is that it is a felony theft..over $300. What can I do to clear up this warrant and why, after all the background checks I've had, is this issue rising now? Isn't there a statute of limitations or something? Without going back to Baltimore, MD, how can I clear this up? Please try to help me on this. I really need some anwers and to be quite honest...after 9 years, I was totally shocked and terribly scared!!!

Re: Outstanding felony warrant
There is no statute of limitations on felony charges. You need to employ a lawyer in Maryland to track down the charge. You will need to give the lawyer the following information, which you should be able to get from Social Security since they notified you of the charges: Date of charge, County in Maryland where charge filed, and charging document number. With that information a crimial attorney (like myself) can track down the charges and help you to resolve this matter.
