Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Petty theft
My 14 year old daughter put a $6.00 ring ifrom JCpenneys in her bag from another store. She also was going to get a necklace but placed it somewhere else in the store. I checked out but we had not left the store yet. She knows she was wrong and should have just given me the ring to check out. The L.P took us to a room and made her sign a paper and took her photo. The policeman came and wrote her a citation to appear in juvenile justice on March 12th. The L.P also would not alow me to leave the room and I needed to go to the bathroom but he said '' He would take my child to jail if I left. I asked to see the video tape and he said No. I also offered to pay for the merchandise. she has never been any kind of trouble. They have the merchandise.
