Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Plea Bargaining time frame

My wife is being held for trail, her pre-lim hearing is in early July,4 day jury trial in mid-August.She is charged w/ several theft/embezzlmnt charges. At bail hearing prosecutor told her lawyer he would make a plea bargain she couldn't refuse, our lawyer believes that means only time served(now almost 1 month) w/ probation & restitution. But how soon should we expect the plea bargain to come in?I know it will be before they begin any preparation for the trial, but days, weeks or a month. She was extradited to MD,has been in Md 2 weeks.Thank you for any help,I love my wife ,this happened before I met her,she is a different person now,a good person.

Re: Plea Bargaining time frame

Plea bargaining occurs after a preliminary hearing and anytime up to the date of trial.

A plea bargain can occur on the date of trial. Short of a plea bargain, mitigation can be argued at trial before the bench, other aspects of trial may or may not apply.

You should ensure that your attorney is aware of your desire to make a plea bargain rather than fight the charges.
