what should I do?

I'm a self-employed jewelry wholesaler who sells to retailers & occasionally at store shows, in person. Upon my immediate return home after a show weeks ago, I discovered loose diamonds I kept in my bag missing. They're uninsured and undisplayed (until set into a piece.) When I called and inquired about them, nobody from the store could find them. I remembered that, after sales calls to 2 stores, 1 of which was this same store, almost 2 years ago, I discovered a big piece missing. Yesterday I called the owner to tell him that, evidently, there's a problem in his store . He asked if I'd worked with a particular salesperson & I said that she'd been present both times & that I was suspicious. He then told me that she'd stolen from the store before, had been penalized, but allowed to remain. I asked if we could look at film from store cameras. He said that the film is bad. He said that most employees knew about her problem- that I'd be protected in the future. I haven't reported the losses to police or to insurance. It's $7000 for the present and $4000 for the former loss (altogether almost 10% of my business value!). Having just begun to recover from a huge business loss I can't afford this!How can I get my goods or money back?
