Stolen Check
Someone stole a check from a family member, and tried to cash it but didn't actually get it cashed. Can he still face jail time for this?

Yes, it could still be an attempted theft or forgery/fraud/etc. Depending on how it happened. Do not talk to the cops, and get a lawyer immediately, if not sooner.
