Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Underaged drinking

I am an 18 year old who was charged with underaged possesion of alchohal. I

answered the door when the cops arrived and told them I couldn't let them in

because I was not a resident of the house. The officer said he didn't need my

permission because there was open alcohal inside. After this everyone in the

house was breathalized and givin a ticket. Is this illegal search and is it worth

argueing this in court? I know the max fine is only $500, what is the most

common result if you just go to court and apologize? Also, everyone else

recieved their court dates two weeks ago while I still have not recieved mine

(and I didn't lie about my name or address). Who should I contact, or should I

contact anybody about this? What happens if I just keep my mouth shut about

it?

Re: Underaged drinking

Possible illegal search, but you may not be able to object because it was not your place. Contact the Court to see if a summons was sent to you. Even if you did not receive one if your case is scheduled and you fail to appear a warrant may be issued against you. A common deal that is struck is to offer you community service in exchange for a dismissal of the charges. If you go to court plead not guilty but don't lie. If you were drinking just remain silent. Good luck
