Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Maryland
Clear and Confirmed Race Discrimination
My sister just received a ruling by the EEOC finding in her favor in a race discrimination issue against her employer. I have several questions. What is the statute of limitations for filing suit? Can she hire a more competant attorney? Where can I find case files on race discrimination cases in Maryland? I would really appreciate any response!

Re: Clear and Confirmed Race Discrimination
The time limits for filing differ from state to state so I would have your friend contact the EEOC office that sent the letter and ask them what kind of time limit she is under. Your friend may hire or fire her attorney at any time, however if the attorney is fired she may be liable for his fees incurred up to the date she fired him. If she is looking for a new attorney she should call the local county bar association they should be able to provide her with a list of competent attorneys in her area that deal with this kind of law. She should interview a couple of attorneys so she can find one that she is happy with. As far as Maryland case law, the lawyer should be doing the research that is what she is paying him for. You can also have her go to the local law library and ask for state and federal case law on this matter and the librarian should be able to help. I hope I have pointed you and your friend in the right direction.
