Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Maryland
Workplace Discrimination
I recently resigned from my position due to a poor work environment (the Vice President is verbally abusive), and no room for advancement. I am one of four women in the 50-person company, and none of us have moved up except for the boss' wife. After being at my job for 3 years, I expressed to the general manager that I was interested in having a more accurate title to reflect my responsabilities. My title was Aministrative Assistant, yet I was the only HR contact for the company, and also managed the security. I felt ''Administrative Assistant'' no longer described the major responsabilities I performed, and that a more accurate title would be ''Personnel Manager''. I was then told that it was probably not in the budget, but I asked him to verify this and please get back to me. Well, needless to say, the GM never got back to me, so I started looking for other jobs, finally finding one recently. I am here for the next 2 & 1/2 weeks, but meanwhile they are looking for my replacement. Well, the GM called a Temp Agency yesterday, and I overheard his conversation with them. He called my title Personnel Manager and also gave the salary range an 8K advancement from what I make! Is this legal? Mainly men are being looked at, too.

Re: Workplace Discrimination
Greetings,
while more information is needed, based on your summary, it appears that gender discrimination could be an issue. You may want to contact an employment law attorney.
