If you're convicted of DUI in Maryland, your privilege to operate a motor vehicle in that state will likely be suspended for 12 months, and, as part of the Interstate Drivers' License Compact for the mid-Atlantic region, Maryland will probably notify Virginia DMV of your conviction which will then impose whatever additional sanctions/penalties on you that may be required under their rules.
