My mother in law is in nursing home and we just sold her house and now have over $500K cash. Is there some ;legal; way some of this money can be protected from the nursing home so that her children will have an inheritance.

There are potential ways to shelter some of the assets. Many of the federal laws and Maryland regulations have changed in the past few years moving forward to today. (Some changed as recently as a few months ago). Accordingly, there is no easy or simple answer to your question. In order to properly answer it, a detailed questionnaire would need to be completed and the client educated as to options, their pluses and minuses
