Legal Question in Environmental Law in Maryland
runoff water
We have a problem with rainwater build up in our backyard. My neighbor has trucked loads of dirt in to cause their yard to slope into ours and now all of the water pools in our backyard. Is this legal in Caroline County, MD?

Re: runoff water
The simplest answer to your question is "maybe not" ... There are state and local regulations that govern stormwater which may or may not apply in your situation. There are also basic concepts of nuisance which may or may not apply in your situation. Depending on whether the water is causing significant damage, and depending on how you'd want to correct the situation, it might be worth hiring an attorney to look into the problems.
