Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

1 year and 5 months married can i get alimony

I am disabled and receive a social security check for $540.00 a month. I have been married for 17 months,my wife has a cleaning company which makes a fairly good amount of money. If I divorce her would I be entitled to any alimony or any funds?

The shortness of the marriage is problematic but does not mean that there would be no alimony.

Rather than leave this and other issues to chance at court you may want to enter a separation agreement.

You would be entitled to share in any property acquired during the marriage except property gifted to or inherited by your wife. As far as alimony is concerned, you might be entitled to something if you're unable to support yourself and she was primarily responsible for the marital breakup, but the obviously short duration of the marriage is a negative factor. Perhaps alimony for a limited period of time might be in order.
