Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Adopting when there are 2 possible fathers

My husband & I are considering adopting a newborn--due in August--the birthmother has agreed. There are 2 possible fathers---both of whom are willing to sign the adoption consent. We live in N.C. the birthparents live in Maryland. The mother says she is ''pretty sure'' of the father but my question is wouldn't we need to establishment definate paternity from the father?

Establishing paternity before the consent is effected is highly suggested.

You may need a DNA test for factual support and a paternity affidavit prior to any hearing on the matter.

You should consider having paternity established through court before filing for a hearing on a legal adoption.
