Alamony

I live in Maryland and have only been married to my husband for 1year. I do not work, and we dont have any children together..can he pay me alamony and do I have to allow a divorce if I dont want it?

Maryland recognizes absolute divorce on several grounds including two year separation. Your husband could be granted a divorce once you are separated continuously without marital relations for two years, whether you contest it or not.

Alimony awards are dependent on many factors, including the length of the marriage, the disparity in incomes, etc. Most alimony awards are temporary in nature and consist of rehabilitative payments designed to allow the dependent spouse time to become self-sufficient. Whether and how much alimony may be awarded in your case is impossible to predict.
