Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

alimony adjustment

Good Day

My husband has payed alimony for nearly 10 years. His agreement stipulates that he pay $1000. for 20 Years. My husband is a sales rep. and his industry has suffered cutbacks as many. In the past five years he has changed jobs twice. Althought he is employed his income is half and job security is questionable. She is employed full time earning $40,000. annually.

Does he have grounds to petition an adjustment? Are assets a factor ? i.e. equity in our home.

Thank you

Re: alimony adjustment

Most likely the agreement stipulates that the alimony is not modifiable unless the parties agree to a modification. If so, your husband has no recourse. If the agreement does leave the door open for a court ordered modification, the court would consider the ability of the parties to support themselves, assets and debts.
