Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

assets

This is my second marriage and this husband has a drinking problem. His name is not on my house. If he has an accident DWI or otherwise can they take my house from me because we are legally married? If so can I have a document drawn up to protect myself and my possessions?

Re: assets

No, your house could not be taken from you if your husband gets a DWI or if a judgment in any kind of case is entered against him. You could lose your house as a result of a judgment against yourself, or as a result of a joint debt. I suggest you not co-sign for any loans for your husband, and if you are seriously worried, get rid of any joint credit cards, particularly any which allow for withdrawals of cash.
