birth certificate

im 18 and my parents kicked me out of the house. they have my birth certificate and they will not give it to me, i really need it. can they legally do that?

As a practical matter, rather than fighting your parents for it, you can obtain a copy from the Maryland Vital Services Administration. Same day service is available in Baltimore or in your local county's health department. Here's a link: http://www.vsa.state.md.us/vsa/html/birth.html
