Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

NAME CHANGE ON BIRTH CERTIFICATE FOR A NON_MINOR

My son will be 21 in July. On his birth certificate is the name of a man that is not his father. He want's to have my husband's name on his birth certificate. He has been a father to my son for the last 18 years. How can he get the wrong name off and have my husband's name put on without a lot of hassle. I know if he was a minor, I would need the signature of the other man, is this still true now that he is 21. Also, Is this an adoption procedure? Please answer ASAP as my son would like to have this taken care of in July when he is home on leave.

name change on birth certificate

Hmmmm... that is a very intersting question. Beforeyou go to a lawyer, I would check with the statedepartment of vital statistics. They should have a procedure for errors on a birth certificate.

Also, if the man named as the father has been paying childsupport for all of these years, you may want to seek the adviceof a lawyer for the possible ramifications of chaning the name inlight of that.
