Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

last name change of minor

I applied for a last name change of my son who i have custody of. I wasn't aware of his birth until he was 8 months old. The mother has nothing to do with him and would not sign consent to join in petition although she stated she could care a less what i filed. I ws wondering, when i go to serve her with the papers how long will she have to file objection in Maryland ( she lives in maryland but different county) will I have to go and file for default like custody cases or will they look at it as she doesn't care? Please help in anyway you can

Once she's served she'll have 30 days to reply. You'll probably also have to post a notice in a local newspaper, giving anyone time to object. If she doesn't object and once the notice period passes, the papers can be submitted to a judge for approval.
