Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Changing my child last name

I would likt to change my son's last name to my last name and to have me added to the birth certificate. Paternity has been established. Do I need the mother's permission? How would I go about this?

You will have to file a petition in the circuit court of your county asking the court to change your child's name. The mother will have to be served with a copy of the petition and she will have the right to contest this if she wants to. If she does, the court will do what it thinks is in the child's best interest.
