He has not been apart of my sons life for at least 1year and 10months. please give me some advice on how to get around this problem.

Re: Changing childs last name

To change your child's name, you must file a petition for name change in the circuit court of the county where you live. You will have to publish a notice of your petition in a newspaper of general circulation in order to notify any persons who might be affected by your action to object if they want to. You will probably also be required to personally notify the father in writing so he can become involved if he wishes to do so. If the father objects, you may not be able to convince a court to grant the petition.
