changing custody from mother to great aunt

what papers are needed to transfer custody from natural mother to great aunt in another state. if i don't have to have special papers please state.

the great aunt can not afford custody or adoption. this is what the mother wants the aunt to do in time, but the moment needs guardianship so the child can go to school. the child is 4 years old.

Re: changing custody from mother to great aunt

The great aunt will have to file a petition in her local court to obtain guardianship over the child. The school system will in all likelihood require this before allowing the child to attend school. I recommend that you have the great aunt contact an attorney in her community who is familiar with this procedure. It's not difficult, but certain steps must be followed to do it right.
