Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Changing Status of Taxes with Children

I have been divorced since July 2002. I relocated 3 children away from ex to Indiana from Maryland that same year. During divorce, I agreed to allow ex to take all 3 kids on taxes.

He recently had twins he can take out on taxes. He has impoverished himself and gives less than $800 a month support. I have been working and now want to have a form to have him sign to change tax structure to me having kids since I am providing 75%+ for their care.

Any suggestions how to get a document to give him?

Thanks for your input.

IRS form 8332 is specifically designed for this situation, and you should be able to get it off the irs.gov website. You probably signed one when you agreed to give your ex the exemptions. There may be a related form for renunciation of the original form; IRS can let you know about that. Of course, unless your ex is willing to renounce the exemptions, the form won't do you any good.
