Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Child custody/guardianship

Hello,

I would like information on trying to get guardianship or legal custody of a child not related to me. The mother is in full agreement and the father is unknown and is pass due with the state for the last 3 years on child support, in other words the fathers where abouts are unknown and the mother wants to give me legal custody/guardianship. What documents do I need? how do we go about this? Do I need a lawyer? is there anything the mother and I can do like a public notice to the father?

Thank you

Re: Child custody/guardianship

The easy way to accomplish what you want is to petition the Court for Temporary Custody. The mother would sign a consent and would provide the Court with an affidavit that the father's whereabouts are unknown.
