Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

child leaving country

Can my sons mother take him to another country if I do not want him to go there. Is there some kind of law that requires my permission either verbally or written? She has told me I have no choice as she has residential custody.

Re: child leaving country

If you have joint legal custody you may have some say in this matter. You weren't specific, but I assume her intent is to move to another country, as opposed to visit. If you are sufficiently concerned for the child's safety, or that the move will greatly diminish your relationship with him/her, you could file a court petition seeking to prevent the move.
