Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Child Naming Rights

My ex-girlfriend is having my baby any day now. She has chosen the first, second, and last name(hers) of our baby. Do I have any rights as the father to fight for my last name to be the child's last name?

Re: Child Naming Rights

When the parents are not married, generally the hospital will accept the name provided by the mother. You could file a court petition to establish your paternity (fatherhood) and seek to have the name changed. You may not be successful with regard to the name, but you will be ordered to start supporting the child.
