Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
child support
Does a father have to pay child support once the children reach 18? They live at home with me, their mother. I feel like I am still paying child support.

Re: child support
Child support if payable becomes due upon the date of filing a valid complaint. By this I am saying that you cannot be awarded for support before the date of your filing.
At age 18 support for a child typically ends.
An agreement or judgment may be enforceable to the contrary.

Re: child support
I agree with the original response to your question in that the non-custodial parent has an obligation to pay child support until the child turns 18. I am writing to add, however, that if the child turns 18 and is still in secondary school, then child support should continue to be paid until the first to occur of any of the following: the child dies, the child marries, the child becomes emancipated, the child graduates from or is no longer enrolled in secondary school, or the child turns 19.
