Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Child Support new job

I was laid off 2 months ago and the job I recently got doesn't pay as much therefore I would be left with 100/month after child support is there anything I can do? I filed for modification but i was told that can take 6 months?

Unfortunately, the court process takes time because each side is allowed to take discovery from the other in preparation for the modification hearing, and because of backlogged court calendars. If your petition is granted, it can be made retroactive to the date that you filed, so that if you've paid at the current rate until that time, you'd be entitled to a credit. Assuming the other parent's income hasn't changed, you should check the child support guidelines found in the Family Law Article of the MD Code to see how your reduced income affects your child support obligation.
