Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Child support payment

I have filed for child support, but in the mean time, my ex-husband is giving me no money, or paying for daycare, which in turn makes it impossible for me to work. He keeps making excuses as to why he has no money for me, yet he makes a very good living, and has next to no bills. Is there anything I can do legally to get money from him to support my children while I wait for child support papers to process. I understand they take about 6-9 months to process.

Re: Child support payment

You could consider filing for a limited divorce. It sounds like you

have filed with the Office of Child Support and Enforcement. They will not

handle a limited divorce unless it is the only way to get child support and, since they

owe their loyalty to the taxpayers of the State of Maryland and not to you, they

will not be likely to incurr additional expense. As to 6 to 9 months, this sounds to be longer than

it should be, but then if you are seeking support through OCSE then their staffing has an effect here.

OCSE will do a good job for you if you are willing to work with them; otherwise a private attorney may be able to

provide faster service.
