child support
Hi, my question is regarding child support. The father is stationed in the Air Force in california. Our son is 10 years old. When he was conceived we both lived in England. He was stationed there and I just happened to live there, although an American citizen by birth. But I came back to the USA for the birth of my son and went back when he was a few weeks old. I remainend in England for a few years, but his father was restaioned to Germany. I moved back permanantly to the USA about three years ago. I put in an application for Child support but was denied since the father lived overseas. Last year, though, the father was restationed to California. Now that we are both in the USA, what are the rights of me and my son? Will I get back dated child support? How can I get the Air Force to help me?

If you've been a MD resident for 6 months, you can file a petition to establish paternity (assuming that's never been done legally) and for support. Unfortunately you won't be able to get retroactive support prior to the filing of the petition if there has never been a previous court order. If the father denies paternity, you may have to get an order for a dna test. If you get a court order, the air force will take it out of his pay and send it to you.
