Re: Child Support/Visitation

There must be a court order if you are paying support, unless you agreed in a written document to pay a specific amount. It sounds like support is being deducted from your paycheck due to an earnings withholding order. The amount of support is pretty much determined by a schedule in the MD child support law. It's based on the number of children, the respective incomes of the parents, who pays for health insurance, and other expenses such as day care. You should consult with an experienced family attorney to determine if you are paying a fair amount based on those criteria. If you are overpaying, you can file a motion to reduce child support. You could also at the same time file for visitation rights, and you should be able to get those granted easily.
