Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Do i need counsel?

I have been married to a military man for eight years. I have proof that he has been unfaithful and lives with his mistress (emails, text messages, new adress, etc.) He thinks that I am entitled to whatever he would like for me to have. We have not property together, just a checking account and his vehichle is in my anem and vice versa. We have no children (just a dog which he does not want). Can i file for an absolute divorce without counsel considering that there is no property involved? I do want alimony and military benefits.

You could represent yourself; however, he is likely to have counsel provided to him free or at a discount through his military service. Your counsel fees may be covered through the divorce.

You should file for his military benefits and all other benefits as you may be entitled.

Your having the proof as you state is essential depending on the content and other proof may be needed to prove adultery.

You should seek legal assistance. My fees are reasonable.

In view of the fact that there are monetary (alimony) and property (his pension) issues involved in the divorce, not to mention that you want to base it on a contested ground (adultery), you will really need an experienced family law attorney to represent you, to insure that you receive what the law entitles you to. The law provides that the judge can require your husband to pay all or part of your legal expenses if circumstances warrant. It would be most unwise of you to try and handle this without an attorney.
