Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
Court Ordering a Paternity Test
Last year I slept with a girl in Baltimore, soon after she told me she was pregnant and that she had not slept with anyone else for months before and since. About 3 months after we slept with each other I came back down to montgomery county and over the next 6 months she continued to tell me she was pregnant with my daughter. She consistently refused to provide me any type of proof that she was pregnant, not even letting me go see her which obviously leads me to believe she was lying. The supposed due date was a month ago and now she's telling me that she had her, even posted a few baby pictures on her webpage but still refuses to give me any proof that it's mine or let me be any part of it or that she even had a baby for that matter. If this is truly my child I want to be a part of her life, maybe even take custody of her so my question is this. Is there anyway legally that I can get her to admit/prove whether she had my child or not and if so how would I go about it?

Re: Court Ordering a Paternity Test
Ask her to submit to a paternity test, which will conclusively determine whether you are the father. Offer to pay for the cost of the test, and tell her that if in fact you are the father, you are prepared to support the child and want to be a part of her life. If she refuses, that casts doubt on whether in fact you are the father. If she files a paternity action in court, the court will require her to submit to this test if you request it.
