Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
Custody/Guardianship
My daughter has been diagnosed bi-polar. She is unable to hold a job and is not responsible. She had a baby against our begging her not to and we have been financially responsible for the entire 6 months. The older the child gets the less responsible the mother is and we are pretty much raising her. My daughter is placing the child in dangerous situations pursuing her personal wants over the child's needs. She had been a runaway from the age of 14-18 and we dutifully tried to find her each and everytime. SHe has slept on elementary school playgrounds and been brought home for being out with 30+ y.o. men. She does not keep her hygiene up and has to be told to wash herself and the child, most recently we had her hair cut off because it had become so matted that it couldn't be combed. Her doctor and the pediatrician will call me to confirm info and anytime she goes to any agencies they contact me also. We cannot force her to go to be evaluated, so what can we do to help our grandaughter?

Re: Custody/Guardianship
First of all, you should contact social services in your county and ask them to investigate. If the child is in danger, they can initiate action to have the child taken away from your daughter. If you are willing to act as custodian, perhaps that can be arranged through this procedure.
