Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I dated an abusive man for a little more than seven months two years ago. He has a little girl who is now 3.5 yrs now. When I was involved with him she was between the ages of 13.5 months and 20 months. I saw him abuse her and felt his abuse myself. I have not seen this sweet little girl in 20 months. I am scared for her because having survived his physical, emotional, and sexual abuse myself I do not want a child to have to survive this. I know the child's mother has some mental health issues having worked with her and the different things that she tried while I was with him that put the child in greater danger. Is there anything I can do to protect this little girl? Social services was informed while we were dating of the abuse but nothing ever came of it. Her mother's parents are also unstable and unfit parents and his mother lives with him and has severe medical conditions which make her unable to care for the child.

While your concern for the child is laudable, you really have no legal standing to get involved, especially since the events of which you speak occurred so long ago. Apparently social services reviewed the matter when it was first reported, and rightly or wrongly, took no action.
